GOOD THINK: Let others be on LinkedIn—and elsewhere
Hey there,
Jake here.
We're trying something slightly different at Turkey House Consulting today. Basically, we're shifting the tone from blog to newsletter.
My good think of the week is the real body of the newsletter–a message relevant to the subject line.
Good thinks from other peeps is where I share an interesting point made by someone else.
And, finally, The Sisyphus second is just some good old fashioned ridiculous fun.
I hope you enjoy this experiment.
And so, without further delay, I present to you the first edition of the ONLY newsletter for those who like a good think.
My good think of the week
To those who insist that LinkedIn is still a professional network (though it has obviously descended into a social media platform like so many others):
Perhaps you could make the argument that LinkedIn is still a business network. But you must keep in mind that ubercorporate isn't the only way to do business. The way others do business may not be up to your 'professional' standards.
Business includes small-to-midsize businesses (SMBs). It includes freelancers. And, yes, it includes creatives who may go against the grain at times, much to your chagrin.
Know and remember there are many ways to business. Your way isn't the only way.
Let others be.
On LinkedIn.
And elsewhere.
Because you're still playing by the rules of the 20th Century. And it should be painfully obvious by now that those rules are outdated. Others are playing the new edition of the game.
Yet you insist on sticking to the old house rules.
This way of thinking means you're being left behind. Maybe that's fine if you need to limp along for only the next five years or so before you ride off into that fabulous sunset we call retirement.
But that doesn't describe all of you. For many of you, time is not on your side. You don't have the luxury of being useless for a small handful of years. You have no choice but to evolve. The world demands it.
You can fight the current, or you can let it work for you. You can lean in and find your place in the changing tides.
Something new is forming around you—and the rest of us. You have more options than ever before. And thank goodness, because that one way you cling to isn't the best way to go about things anymore.
You can double down. You can dig heels in, bury your head in the sand. You can keep on keepin' on. The choice is yours.
But don't hate those of us who chose another route. We didn't set the conditions. We merely found a way to exist within them. Despite them.
If you don't like it, then unfollow those playing the game different from you. Mute them. Block them.
Create your own echo chamber if you must. But let the others have their own version as well.
Good thinks from other peeps
I spend too much time on LinkedIn.
But that's because LinkedIn has gotten real fun lately. And that's due to the people I've started interacting with.
Below is one such fun interaction:

If you like this post from Blair, chances are you'll like others from her. Follow Blair Huddy on LinkedIn for more.
The Sisyphus second
I got a movie idea.
It's called Escape from DFW—a sequel to Escape from New York and Escape from LA.
But it's just Snake Plissken in sitting in DFW traffic for two whole hours.

I hope you all had a wonderful Father's Day, no matter where you fit in the fatherhood experience.
<3,
Jake
